Description
The benefits and design of collective contracts in the context of water quality were discussed. Materials distributed included the CONSOLE factsheet for the Esk Valley Catchment project in the UK which was the case study that most closely represented the topic of the training event. The collective contract decision tree developed from the results of the CONSOLE Project was also discussed. The conversation centred around the difficulties that arise in getting land managers to work collectively and how dairy farmers will need considerable financial compensation to enrol in such a contract. The solutions include learning from other projects which have similar objectives and have achieved success in terms of improved water quality.
